Is Spanking Biblical?

For too long I've heard the saying (not scripture) "Spare the rod, Spoil the child" as the "Biblical" justification for spanking. Is this justification acceptable? What do the major Mega Ministries have to say about spanking? What about renowned American New Testament Scholar, Reformed Theologian, pastor and chancellor John Piper, what about Focus on the Family? I'm sure this is going to land me in hot water, and I just couldn't care less any more. Why hasn't anyone answered these two questions from the pulpit; 1. What is spanking? What is the Biblical definition/justification for inflicting violence on our children? 2. What is a "last resort" and when do I know I've reached it? There isn't ONE "christian" parenting author, pastor, psychologist, or speaker who has answered these questions satisfactorily. It's high time someone did. Let's pull the pin and see what happens!!
